This lovely organic microlot from Colombia has been produced wholly by Manuel Mecias Ñanes on his 0.5 hectare farm among the steep mountains of Popayan provingce Colombia. Manuel undertakes all of the growing, harvesting and management himself and his meticulous care really does shine through in the cup.

Manuel Mecias Nanes lives in Argelia, Cauca on his 0.5 ha plot of land. here he grows Colombia and Caturra coffee plants amongst blackberry, pineapple and banana trees. The farm is organic, which Manuel works hard to maintain – looking after the soils health and nutrition in traditional ways. During the harvest Manual works by himself collecting ripe cherry and the coffee is pulped and fermented for 12 hours that night. The following day the coffee is washed and cleaned before being dried in a parabolic drier for 7 – 10 days.
Manuel is part of the ASOPROA group of farmers who are supported by the Cosurca Cooperative. The cooperative has been working hard in communities around the Popayan region and has several programs which focus on empowering their members with education and training to help them prosper post conflict. They have also extended their micro lot program this year to help incentivise farmers to produce quality lots. They have provided training and cupping in the field to educate growers and have also been paying higher prices at the collection points (15% more) for coffee delivered below 11% moisture content.
