Flavour Notes: A rich & fruity blend, creamy toffee & chocolate. Great with or without milk.
Our seasonal organic espresso blend Muddy Boots is a rich blend of our Peru Cajamarca, Honduras Edy Mauricio and our Sumatra Gegarang Village organic coffees, which combine smoothly together to create a lovely roast aroma with a satisfying creamy mouth feel and a complex journey of flavours from zesty fruit to deep toffee and dark chocolate. A real treat for espresso based drinks with or without milk.
A 2016 Great Taste Gold Star Award winner.
100% Arabica coffee, organic
Muddy Boots is roasted to a rich medium to bring out it’s full body and flavour and makes a lovely smooth espresso that’s great with milk. We’ve called it Muddy Boots for all the hours spent tramping in the woods above the roastery – it’s great to get back and relax with this comforting brew and our favourite dreamy chocolate cake.
And now it’s a 2016 Great Taste Award Winner too ! Here’s what the judges had to say:
“Lovely roast aroma. Creamy mouth feel – satisfying. Flavour has a good level of roast and an interesting journey of flavours with zesty, dark chocolate in a positive and challenging way. Rewarding experience with or without milk and sugar – a good flexible brew.”
Muddy Boots is currently a blend of three of our organic coffees, roasted to our espresso profile which is just a shade darker than our single origin roasts:
Peru, Cajamarca – Organic
A new cooperative set up in 2016 to focus on separating great coffees into individual lots rather than losing them by blending into large commercial grade batches. This lot is made up of beans from 5 small producers who each harvest, de-pulp, wash and dry the coffee in traditional style on their own patios.
Honduras, Edy Mauricio – Organic
In collaboration with our coffee sourcing partners this coffee is the first result of a new project to provide training and support to 25 individual small farmers – to further improve the quality of their coffee beans. In its first year the project increased quality scores by a whapping 3.45 points and generated $60,840 directly for farmers above and beyond the Fairtrade Organic pirce.
Sumatra, Gegarang Village – Organic
This organic and Fairtrade certified coffee is grown by a co-operative of 46 farmers from the village of Gegarang, located in the hills on the northern bank of Lake Tawar, close to Takengon in the province of Aech. After harvest it’s the unique process of semi-washing the coffee beans that imparts the character which makes Sumatran coffee so recognisable.

Just finished the first bag of Muddy Boots. It is by a long way the best coffee I have ever had. Superb. I feel like my taste buds have lived a B&W existence until Muddy Boots introduced colour!

We enjoy trying different ones from time to time but we return to this one, as a firm favourite.
