Guatemala – El Cabro Lot 1

In the picturesque landscapes of La Libertad, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, the La Bolsa stands as a beacon of collaborative effort, an embodiment of shared aspirations, and a testament to the art of crafting exceptional coffee.

The roots of the La Bolsa run deep, drawing strength from the unity of its members. From humble beginnings, this cooperative has blossomed into an impactful force, united in its quest for excellence. Amidst the verdant expanse of La Libertad lies a convergence point that symbolizes the collective spirit of the group. Situated at GPS Coordinates: 15°33’15.82″N 91°55’30.49“W, this nexus serves as more than just a physical location; it is a hub of growth, offering essential training, financial support, and indispensable equipment to its members and partners alike.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the majestic Finca Terrazas, the Vides family legacy flourishes. The history of this land dates back to 1958 when Jorge Vides, the visionary grandfather, breathed life into Finca La Bolsa. Overcoming the challenges of dense forests, Jorge Vides meticulously cultivated bourbon and caturra varieties, an endeavor that echoed his profound passion for health and well-being.

Beyond his medical profession, Jorge Vides’s legacy extended to the community. He embraced the mantle of Director at the National Hospital of Huehuetenango, fostering a humanitarian spirit that continues to endure. In 1980, he sowed the seeds of education by founding a school on the farm, a tribute that stands authorized by the Ministry of Education. This legacy culminated in the distinguished honor of being named “Distinguished Coffee Grower” by Anacafé, a fitting tribute to his contributions.

The geographical coordinates, GPS Coordinates: 15°35’14.40″N 91°56’15.69“W, are imbued with historical resonance, narrating tales of labor, dedication, and transformation. Embracing an expanse of 108 hectares, the farm thrives at elevations ranging from 1300-1600 meters above sea level. Beneath the protective canopy of Gravilea and Inga trees, the Caturra and Bourbon cultivars flourish, nurtured through deliberate pruning and selective manual harvesting to ensure the selection of the finest cherries.

The journey from the harvest’s inception to the final cup is a choreography of precision and care. Handpicked at their peak, the cherries undergo a metamorphosis through depulping, fermentation, and sun-drying on inviting patios for 15-18 days. This odyssey culminates in the secure embrace of warehouses, where the essence of each harvest is conserved.

The driving force behind the La Libertad Coffee Cooperative’s processing choices is their unwavering commitment to quality. Embarking on the path to export, the coffee embarks on its voyage from the origin’s warehouses to the dry mill in Guatemala City. Here, it undergoes a transformation that aligns with client specifications, undergoing meticulous cupping approval and culminating in personalized packaging.

Within the realm of the La Libertad Coffee Cooperative, economic, social, and governance considerations harmonize, creating a well-rounded approach that propels their mission to fruition.

Faced with challenges, from production costs to labor dynamics, the La Libertad Coffee Cooperative remains resolute, driven by innovation and collective aspirations.

As they cast their gaze toward the horizon, the La Libertad Coffee Cooperative envisions a future adorned with investments and growth, nurturing a legacy that traverses generations.

Beyond coffee cultivation, the cooperative’s vision extends to broader horizons, fostering community well-being through multifaceted endeavors.

With every sip of coffee nurtured by their hands, one is imbued with the essence of unity, dedication, and shared dreams intertwined in each exquisite cup.
